Khosa’s runaway dump truck killed Bjornson’s father, Bjorn, 58, one year ago at the bottom of the 22nd Strect hill in West Vancouver. Last week, Khosa was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act with driving without due care and attention and driving without consideration. Khoa was also charged with a bylaw infraction of exceeding a gross vehicle weight. “There is not much you can say to that person. An apology would have been nice,” said 23-year-old Josh Bjornson, who was contacted by the News during a break from his studies at Simon Fraser University. Bjornson added: “I’m sure he is going through hell ina lor of the same senses that we are. He is human.” The West Vancouver Police recommended the same charges against Khosa in July, but regional Crown counsel decided not to proceed with the charges. f=: After a public uproar and s request to review the matter, charges were laid last Wednesday in North Vancouver provincial court. Bjornson said that although he was pleased to hear charges were laid, it doesn’t make sense that criminal charges of a more serious nature were not laid against the driver. Sve Charges page 2 INV man convicted of murdering best triend A jury convicted North Vancouver resident Eli McGinty of manslaughter Wednesday in connection with the death last year of his best friend, Phillip Patrick Barry of Maple Ridge. McGinry was slated to be sentenced Friday in B.C. Supreme Court, but Crown counsel Robert Bonner said sentencing was adjourned until Oct. 24 when defence lawyers requested an updated presentencing report. McGinty had originally been charged with second-degree murder in c manection with c June 1996 incident. @ In New Westminster court last week, McGinty sat in the corner of the prisoner’s dock as his common-law wife, neighbors, a resident and police mreplayed the night of Junc 4, 1996 — the night Barry was stabbed and found by police in a pool of blood.
