Options for volunteers THE FOLLOWING is a selection of volunteer opportunities avail- able through North Shore Com- munity Services (NSCS). A FRIENDLY person is wanted to play golf with a 20-year-old mentally handicapped man once per week. A SCCIABLE person is needed io run a ‘‘happy hour’ for a group of seniors. The volunteer will pour drinks, handle cash and socialize. The hours are from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m. on Tuesdays. Orien- tation will be provided. CAMP leaders need volunteers to assist with a day camp program for chiidren aged six to 12 years. Volunteers will help prepare for the day’s activities and go on field trips to places such as Science World and Chinatown. Training will be provided. SOCIABLE people who enjoy working with the public are need- ed by a hospital for a variety of duties including flower delivery and library cart services. A three-month commitment is re- quired and the hours are flexibie. Training will be provided and volunteers will receive a 20% dis- count on giftware from the gift shop. AN INTERVIEWER is wanted to conduct information and refer- ral interviews with people interest- ed in volunteering at North Shore agencies. Training and orientation will be provided and the hours are flexible. DRIVERS are wanted to pick up meals from North Vancouver and deliver them to Deep Cove. The driver must be able to lift 35-pound vacuum-packed con- tainers. The hours are trom 4 to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednes- days. Training anc crientation will be provided. MEAL servers are needed to set tables, serve meals and clean at a seniors lodge. The hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Training and orien- tation will be provided. A VOLUNTEER with a reliable car is wanted to visit a woman who is approximately 50 years of age and is restricted to a wheelchair. The visitor will assist the woman with correspondence and accompany her on outings. The hours are flexible.. If you are interested in volun- teering call 985-7138.
