Please allow me space to
refute the allegations being
made by a small group in
West Vancouver concerning
two important subjects.

What are
we saving
on garbage?

VAN CITY COUNCIL

Explain to me once again,
why are we using a private
company to pick up the city
garbage?

Our garbage costs have
risen 11 per cent because of
dumping costs. I thought the
taxpayers owned the dump-
ing area? Who is getting the
11 per cent?

I would like to know,
could we have kept our own
trucks running if we had add-
ed the 11 per cent at that
time. Exactly how much does
the paper pick up save us as
taxpayers.

Firstly, the proposed
foreshore lease with the Pro-
vincial government is apn ex-
cellent arrangement. It aliows
local government to look
after, protect, care for and
prevent encroachments on
the foreshore and ensure that
Marinas are properly main-
tained and operated. Fhe
allegations that there are
municipal proposals for the
building of structures and
developments on the
foreshore are completely
wrong. No such thought or
proposal has been endorsed
by Council. All the land that
has been acquired over the
last number of years on the

Ambleside-By-The-Sea_ and ~

Argyle Ave. waterfront has
already been reserved for
park use.

There are a number of
encroachments existing on
the public foreshore. The
municipal staff are preparing
proposed guidelines on how
the municipality will handle
these under the foreshore
lease. Prior to adoption of
these by Council, all in-
terested public will be invited
to offer Council advice and
commentary on the proposed
guidelines.

Secondly, following con-
sideration in early 1983 of a

proposal to change the 1100
Bik. Keith Road to a duplex
zone, and in response to
public requests that the whole
of Ambleside be considered
before any zoning change
was made to a specific street,
Council directed staff to
study the whole area. The
present planning study
responds to the 1983 public
submissions. However, the
Study is now before the Ad-
visory Planning Commission
and we await their report for
the public’s consideration.

For a small group to go
door to door with pamphlets
and petitions spreading fear
and dismay on the presump-
tion, as they say, ‘‘that great
changes are contemplated,”’
does our, West Vancouver a
very serious disservice. Our
residents dg not deserve to be
upset. ANY MATTERS
UNDER STUDY ARE FUL-
LY PUBLIC AND ARE
ALWAYS MADE KNOWN
AND HEARD PUBLICLY.

letter but must draw the at-
tention of the residents of
West Vancouver to the er-
roneous slatementa, being
made by a few active
disturbers.
