B4 -Sunday News, August 31, 1980 Marlins swimmers perform strongly A second place finish in swimming for the North Shore Winter Club Marlins, coupled with strong in- dividual performances, enabled the local club to come up with one of their strongest ever finishes in the B.C. summer games. More than 58 clubs from around the province took part in the August event. In addition to the second place overall finish, the Marlins captured top spot in the Junior Girls and were runner-up in Senior Girls, Junior Boys, Senior Boys, Boys, Girls, Team Trophy and Challenge Cup. The club was led by Joe Tadey who captured the 17 and over aggregate from his gold in breast stroke and individual medley, a bronze in free style and a fourth in back. Karen Allen earned the runner up tn 15-16 girls with a pair of golds, a bronze and a fifth place finish In girls 9-10, Shelley Webster was runner up with a paur of silvers, a fourth and a fifth Keith Lickitch won the gold for boys 10 and under in the metre diving event Other finalists and their finish for the club were Mario Kloepzg, & and under, fifth in free, 2nd in breast; 9-10, Shelley Webster, 2nd in free, 4th in back and 2nd in fly, Derek Lee, 8th in fly, David Heskin, 7th in breast; 11-12, Maren Tollestrup, 4th in fly, 6 breast, 2nd in 1M, 2nd in free, Shannon Webster, 7th IM, Neil Didcott, 6th in back, Doug McDonald, 7th breast, Wade Bartok, 8th IM. In the 13-14 class, Elaine Prescott picked up three seconds in fly, back and IM and a third in free. Diane Ford had a silver in breast with Brad Fanos taking a fifth in back and two sixth place finishes in breast and IM. For 15-16, Karen Allen recorded two golds in fly and back, a bronze in IM and a fifth in free. Kim Green had a sixth in breast while Paul Takey had a bronze in free and a fourthin IM. In the 17 and over, Lynn Parkinson had a fourth in fly and a seventh in back. Jean Parkinson had an eighth in fly, Joe Tadey had a pair of golds, bronze and = fourth place finish, Pat Smith an 8th in IM and Dave Hotles a third in backstroke and sixth in fly. In addition, a total of 18 Marlins also reached consolahion finals in 30 events CAPILANO Catalina synchronized swimmers came up with a silver medal in the girls 13-14 event at the B.C.
