floats

For the first time West
Vancouver beaches. will
have no swimming floats this
summer.

Council Monday night
passed a 4-3 motion to
discontinue the use of the
floats on the grounds of
possible liability to the
municipality.

In Penticton recently a
boy died after diving into
shallow water from a float
and the city was held hable.
Alderman George Morfitt
told council,

“Because we have tdal
water here, for us to place

floats to meet a judge's
supulation would be vir-
tually impossible.” he said,

adding that the floats also
need a great deal of repair

POLICE FOUND MAN TIED UP

An alert passer-by who
called the RCMP after
nolicing suspicious activities
in a convenience store 1s
being credited for
preventing a holdup there.

When police arrived at
Mac’s Milk store at 1250
Lynn Valley Road, following
the woman's call last week,
they found the proprietor
being tied up by a youth.

RCMP say three males

held up the man, using a
simulated knife which was
made of wood.

In custody is 19-year-old
Patrick Michael Mills, of
3355 Baird Road, North
Vancouver, who is charged
with armed robbery together
with two juveniles aged 15
and 16.

A police spokesman
commented: “I cannot
