One in- structor for every six. women will talk about the wheels, the exhaust system (tailpipe and muffler), the brakes (disc verses drum) and shock absorbers. The automotive shop will have the ladies take a look under the hood, showing them the different nents and where they are located. The class will discuss safety precautions, where the oil and transmis- sion fluid is located, how to jump start a car safely, how to fix a fanbelt with a pair of pantyhose in an emergency and how to change a flat tire. Noises and knocks that might occur in the tappets, or valves, will be discussed, ‘‘so a woman will know the difference between a minor adjustment and a_ $1000 repair,’’ Macht explained. The work will be done on the ladies’ own cars, Macht emphasized, so that if they need to practise what they’ve learned in an emergency, it won’t be foreign to them. The third seminar will look at body shop repairs at the collision shop. The mechanics will explain how exact estimates are made on cars that have been in acci- dents and they will describe compo- the ICBC process. Cut away views of cars will give close-ups of part repairs, making it easier to unders- tand. Rust repairs, paint jobs and the replacement of vinyl roofs, seat covers and floor mats will complete the overview. And Trimline will then talk about beautifying the car without a great deal of cost, including pinstriping and body graphics. Each night will include films to illustrate the lessons. The three-night seminar will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, October 22, 23 and 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. Free coveralls will be given to each of the ladies, which they can keep after the semi- nars, and there will be about 50 doorprizes, including BCAA memberships, brun- ches and cases of wine.
