Dust off chapeaux for
opera’s day at the track

IT’S time once again to dust off,
create or buy that incredible het.

The Vancouver Opera Guild's 1997
fundraiser Opera Goes to the Races rakes
place on Saturday, May 31, 1997, so you'd
best start planning your dream hat now.

Styled after the Royal Ascot races in
England, where the ladies seem to come up

TWO of the race-goers at last year’s
Opera Goes to the Races, show off
their stylish picks for the day-ic.g hat
display.

with more outrageous hat styles every year,
Opera Goes to the Races will take place at the
Table Terrace Restaurant at Hastings Park
Racecourse.

A buffer luncheon prepared by the chub-
house chef and entertainment by singers
from Vancouver Opera’s Ensemble will be
offered before the Parade to the Post.

Hats will be judged for prizes and all
guests are eligible to win door prizes includ-
ing vintage wine, hats, membership at the
Vancouver Art Gallery and opera tickets.

The highlight of the afternoon will be the
Vancuuver Opera Purse race.

Two of the assembled guests will present
the traditional Victory Blanket to the win-
ning horse and jockey.
