The split root‘coil method of basketry,
famous in the Chilcotin area, made a vessel so
tight it was used for holding water, to ‘Place

The basket is more elaborate than most.
Such examples are very rare. It is fully imbri-

cated (applied design) over.a coil technique’

and zoomorphic figures of caribou, birds and

* arrows.

It has a steamed bent willow frame. for
additiunal strength.

In 1850 ic was documented. that a large
burden basket was traded for a buffalo skin
robe.

- This basket: was valuable then -and it
~ remains so. In excellent condition, it is circa

1886 and is approximately 11.5 inches wide.
