Conducted for the Canadian © Council of Christians and Jews — an organization dedicated to pro- moting racial harmony — by Decima Research, the survey showed that three out of four Ca- nadians reject the official govern- ment policy of cultural diversity. They think ethnic minorities should try harder to fit into mainstrean society. They want Ottawa to abandon its dream of multiculturalism in favor of the melting-pot concept . adopted in the U.S. In addition, 54% said current immigration policy allowed in “tou many people of different races and cultures.”” And 74% thought racism is a serious prob- lem in Canada.
