Squamish
group home
opens on
Mission
reserve

THE SQUAMISH Nation
has opened a new group
home on its Mission reserve
in North Yancouver to pro-
vide quality housing for
band members.

The facility was officially open-
ed on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 422
West Esplanade.

A portion of the $398,400 capi-
tal cast of the project is being
covered by a 20-year ioan from a
private lender.

The loan has been insured by
the Canada Mortgage and Hous-
ing Corp. (CMHC), the federal
housing agency under the National
Housing Act.

The project’s site has been pro-
vided by the Squamish Nation
Band,

Through CMHC, continued fi-
nancial assistance in the amount
of $20,223 will be provided for
the first year to reduce the loan
interest rate to as low as 2%,

The rent.subsidy assistance wil!
be provided for 35 years and is
expected to keepocctipancy charges
affordable for the group home.
