Hydro should bury poles

Dear Editor:

I would be much more sym-
pathetic to the problem of trees
falling on power poles as stated by
Mr. Sheehan of B.C. Hydro (letter
to the editor Feb. 25) if I could see
any evidence whatsoever that B.C.
Hydro had any long-range plans to
help solve their problem by bury-
ing their unsightly hydro lines un-

Surely Hydro has a responsibili-
ty to return something to the
municipalities in which they
operate by undertaking such a
program.

This is particularly so in light of
their recent request for a nine per
cent increase in rates which, by
their own admission, is not re-
quired by them to produce a

satisfactory profit.

The eventual reduction in servic-
ing costs resulting from such a
program should dictate that they
move quickly from a purely selfish
point of view if not from a feeling
of social conscience.
