FOR THE sixth time this season, the North Shore Winter Club Flames were unable to find the winning combination against the Abbotsford Pilots as they suffered a 5-3 loss in their final meeting in tegular season play. Saturday at the Winter Club. Despite a solid effort by the Flames, the game's outcome was unfortunately determined by the power play. The Flames got off to a fast Fish bowls to third NORTH VANCOUVER’S Peter Fish placed third in indoor singles competition at the Western Open lawn bowling tournament. Sixteen players from Alberta and B.C. came to compete at the three-day tourney, held Feb. 2-4 at the International Standard Saanich Indoor facility. Fish was 5-0 in qualifying games with a score of 105 for and 51 against. In semi-finals action, Fish lost 10-25 te Ted Waterston of Maple Ridge, the eventual tournament winner. In the finals playoff for third and fourth place, Fish secured third place by defeating Angus MacDonald of Vancouver, 21-17. A member of the Norih Van- couver Lawn Bowling Club, Fish was the only participant from the North Shore. .. Prince George * start with Brad Costa jinding the mark just 56 seconds into the game. However, any chance of the Flames maintaining the good start was thwarted by a rash of penalties which from the two-minute mark kept them shorthanded for most of the period. The Flames were successful in keeping the Pilots off the scoreboard in the first period while converting on their only opportu- nity in the frame with the man ad- vantage, as Rick Rougeau combin- ed with Rich Haldane and Scott Gordon for a power-play marker at 14:36, and a 3-0 tead after one. But the lopsided margin in penalties caught up with the Flames as they yielded = three power-play goals in the second period to trail 3-2 after two, and then eave up two more while shorthanded in the third period. The Flames concluded scoring in the game at 17:25 as Costa con- nected for his second voal of the game, also on the power play, from Andrew Wilson and Rob Tournier, Kevin Radbourne turned in a strong performance in goal for the Flames but had to be replaced late in the period. Over the three periods the Flames were outshot 35-23. The Flames are idle until Feb. 17 when they host the league-leading Burnaby Bluehawks at the Winter Club at the regular 9 p.m. starting time.
