Mailbox — BOB HUNTER COLUMN Volf kill comment ‘erroneous’ Dear Editor: { am writing in response to the Feb. 25 column by Bob Hunter concerning the wolf kill program in northeast B.C. Many of his comments are so erroneous that they call into question the accuracy of his entire article. He says: “But in the Kechika (possibly referring to Kwadcha Wilderness Park) and Muskwa areas, where the wolf kill is being carried out, there are no bag limits on moose.’’ He then adds to the ‘deception’ by saying: ‘‘In other words, the moose populations there are deemed by the province's own biologists to be so stable and unthreatened by natural predators that they apparently don’t bother to restrict hunting.’* Students | call for court action OPEN LETTER TO . PREMIER VANDER ZALM We are very upset that your government is not taking court ac- tion to fine the Canfor Pulp Mill at Port Mellon for failing to comp- ly with the regulations and various orders that you have issued. There is no reason why we should have: to breathe the poisonous gases that this mill emits. We believe they should spend the money needed to comply with government regulations and standards of toxic emissions. That is much more than the two million doliars they plan to spend in the next year. We are deeply concerned about our future and we do not want any amendments or further extensions granted to this mill. We as secondary schoo! students think that it would be better for the company to spend their money in protecting the environment rather than to hold useless ‘‘Open Houses’, which are nothing more than commercials for the Canadian Forest Products pulp mill at Port Mellon. Anxiously awaiting your reply. Science and Technology Grade Eleven Students West Vancouver Secondary School f have examined B.C. Hunting Regulations from the current (1986-1987) edition back to the 1977-1978 issue and Cound, as suspected, that there is no area in B.C. where moose hunting has been unrestricted during that period. Throughout the 10 year period, (here has been no part of B.C. where more than one moose per year per hunter has been allowed. Many British Columbians, myself included, do not really know which argument to accept when it comes to the question of the controlled wolf kill.
