Dodge Caravan offers a new ‘‘ES”’
decor package, a new standard
engine and new exterior color
choices for 1988.

The 1988 Dodge Caravan and
companion Plymouth Voyager
MagicWagons were introduced
four years ago. They are still the
only front-wheel-drive family and
cargo movers built in North
Asaerica.

Totally unique, Caravan and
Voyager are designed for the effi-
cient transportation of people and
their luggage with passenger car
comfort and driving ease.

Dodge Caravan for 1988 comes
in three price classes — the stan-
dard Caravan, highline Caravan
Special Edition (SE) and premium
Caravan Limited Edition (LE) —
on two separate wheelbases.

The standard Dodge Caravan is
built on a 2,845 mm (112.0-inca)

wheelbase and has an overall.
- Iength of a compact 4,468 mm -

(175.9 inches).
’ Although it is designed to carry
from five to eight passengers, the
- standard-wheelbase Caravan’s trim
‘exterior dimensions permit it to fit
into a K-car-sized parking spate or
a conventional residential garage.
Introduced in mid-1987, the ex-
tended-wheelbase Dodge Grand
Caravan is 371 mm, or 14.6 inches
longer than the standard-wheelbase
model. Overall length is 4,839 mm
(190.5 inches). Wheelbase is 3,023
mm (119.0 inches) — seven inches

longer than the standard-wheelbase -

Caravan... ES package’ features
-Seven-passenger seating, monotone
paints, wide body. sill appliques

with . wheel . opening _ flairs, “soft -

front’ and- rear fascias in’ warm
silver, a. wraparound red stripe on
‘the liftgate and body side above’

the sill, black- Pentastar ornament

and handle, red Dodge and Cara-

‘van nameplates on the liftgate,
dual exhaust tips, cast aluminum
wheels and all-season, black side-
wall tires.

The standard engine in the 1988
Dodge Caravan is Chrysler’s pro-
ven 2.5-litre, electronically fuel-
injected four-cylinder engine with
dual counterbalancing shafts.

The 2.5L engine is couple to a
five-speed manual or optional
three-speed automatic transaxle.

The new 3.0-litre V-6 EFI engine
introduced in mid-1987 is optional-
ly available with a three-speed
automatic transaxle and is stan-
dard in Grand Caravan LE
models.

All 1988 Dodge Caravans are
available in five new exterior color
choices -—- Claret Red, Black
Cherry, Dark and Medium Suede
Metallic and Bright White, as well
as a new Bordeaux interior color
decor.

Caravan’s impressive list of
standard equipment features in-
cludes a new liftgate closing assist
handle, new wheel covers, dual
outside mirrors and a long-life
stainless steel exhaust system. Dual
sun visor vanity mirrors are stan-
dard on all 1988 Dodge Caravans,
as is a 500-ampere battery, and the
optional gauge package has been
revised to include a tachometer
and 200 k.p.h. (125  m.p.h.)
speedometer.

accented for 1988 with the addition
of soft, body color front and rear
fascias with new ultra high-
strength steel supporting bumper

Dodge Grand Caravan models
offer seven or  eight-passenger
seating configurations, and with
the two rear rows of seats removed
can carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood
with the liftgate closed. A rear air
conditioner/heater is available as
an option.

An optional heavy duty trailer
towing package is available for all
1988 Dodge Grand Caravan
models. With it, trailers up to
1,814 kg (4,000 pounds) can be
towed. The package includes a
120-ampere alternator, heavy-duty
brakes and styled steel 15-inch
wheels,- special trailer tow wiring
