The teacher, who is single, was interviewed on the telephone for one hour by officials from Ottawa, and received the good. word last February. Jackson is taking a leave of absence from her teaching duties on the North Shore, where she has worked for 13 of her 16-year teaching career. : Before coming to Ridgeway School seven years ago, Jackson taught at Lynn Valley Elementary School, Monteray Elementary, and was a physical education consul- tant for one year for North Van- couver School District. Prior. to that she taught in Vancouver. EDUCATION ABROAD Jackson is the only North Shore teacher awarded a teaching con- tract in Germany this year. Seven other teachers from B.C. will also be going to the school, and living nearby in a small farming com- munity, close to the French border. ‘France is only 15 minutes away,”’ said Jackson. “T'll be going there for dinner and there’s the opportunity: to ski at different mountains in the region. It’s the Black Forest area, famous for its fine wines and gourmet foods.”’ Skiing, good wine and gourmet foods are three pleasures in life that Jackson said she enjoys. Jackson said another benefit of teaching in Germany wil. be having the opportunity to Icarn another language. After she learned of. her acceptance, Jackson began study- ing German with one of her’ stu- dents, and the student’s mother. ’ For the past year Jackson has’ also been attending university and received her Education Extended Diploma, this month, in the area of physical education.
