The North Shore Volun- teer Food Bank, part of the Vancouver Food Bank, disperses food bags Wed- nesdays at 1 p.m. from North Shore Neighbourhood House. Co-ordinator John Hegeman says recipients have dropped off slightly for the summer but in June the North Shore averaged 240 bags of groceries given every’ Wednesday. “There are people who have been (at the food bank) virtually every Wednesday since we opened two years ago,’’ Hegeman said. Hegeman said that although the North Shore Food Bank is not geared to accepting donations of food because of the severe lack of storage facilities, they will accept produce shortly be- fore the bags are dispersed. Anyone. wishing to ar- range for the pick-up of large donations of food are - asked to contact the main office of the Vancouver Food Bank, at 873-3711. Hegeman said the food bank is run by about six volunteers and by a number of recipient volunteers. ‘‘It’s quite a well-oiled piece of machinery,"’ he said.
