nine WV council blasted | a for own wage raise | 9UmMmer. Savings MUNICIPAL councils are often “fair game’? when it comes to name calling and vocal criticism, but at West Vancouver Monday night, the anger was aimed at former mayoraity candidate Tom Reid. By BILL BELL Reid, who was on hand to question council's decision that night to vote themselves a four per cent raise, was lambasted by another au- dience member, “| think he is a member of the Flat Rock Society,’’ said H.L. McDonald. who claim- ed to be an impartial on- looker, He. went. on to describe Reid asa ‘‘one man bulldog,” ‘and.chastised him for -his “permanent elec- tioneering.’ “Don't let: it continue,’’ McDonald said. But for Reid, who has been persistent. in his ques- tioning, . council given the public answers. ‘ “As the answers given at the (previous. council) meeting... were unsatisfactory enough and: inconsistent, the. writer . requested that the bylaw be tabled: and the subject be. referred to a Policy and Planning “Meeting,” Reid told council. : . Reid went on to outline items of information, which he said he was denied access to” by the Municipal Clerk: : “Phe. writer has not requested | from the municipal clerk the right to read the files and the following information. The Municipal Clerk refused to grant the requesis on the grounds that the matters had been discussed in-camera or were marked confidential,” Reid said. Reid later said at least one item requested was handed over, but information on the Mayor's car and metlical benefits and a special enter- tainment allowance were not given to him. Alderman David Finlay took “strong exception’’ to Reid’s comments and denied that council had not given the full information at the last meeting. Mayor Humphreys would not allow Reid te respond to Finlay or McDonald, saying, “You have spoken once and that is enough.” Reid who was visibly upset by McDonald’s com- ments and the Mayor's re- fusal to allow him to speak twice, refused to answer any questions from the North Shore News. The new indemnity bylaw sets the Mayor’s rate at $33,489 a year and aldermen at $8,760. NEVE TOUR TE HEAL OF S22! MEONE VONT KNOW B.C.
