CURLING CLUB members from the North Van- couver Recreation Centre (NVRC) are not im- pressed with the proposal to turn their curling rink into a museum. The rink, home to world curling champion Linda Moore, was proposed by ’ North Vancouver City Ald. . Stella Jo Dean as a possible new home for the North Shore Museum and Ar- chives. But NVRC curling club - president Susan Phillips says . club membership has in- creased by 12 per cent over the past three years, and she “is anticipating a substan- tial growth for the future."* Phillips explained that five years ago the ice conditions ‘at NVRC were not up. to standard and curling membership decreased. But - since then leaks in the roof were mended, a new ‘con- Genser was put in, ice condi- tions became excellent cand the rocks were sharpened.. -“Up until we had good _ice, we couldn't promote, “tebuild or increase our membership,”’ Phillips said. _ “That kind of thing takes ? “time. You can't do it over a year. You’ve got to start - building — that's what “ we’ve been doing, and it’s working very well.’’ The proposal to have Fray with _ policeman means jail A. There’s no guarantee. They'd like to take our rev- ° enue when possible, but they can’t take us all.” Curlers who now use NVRC include 405° club members, 88 commercial league members and 700 students Phillips said. Said Phillips: “It’s tronic that we’re here fighting for a rink, when we'll be greeting the (Moore) teaia tomorrow (Tuesday). We've spent the last four years trying to get better ice.
