A very successful Track and Field season, recently concluded, has left the Club’s coffers depleted. According to Club Presi- dent John Cull, Track and Field is a ‘‘pay as you go”’ sport. ‘‘Track Clubs pay for each event that the athletes enter. Every jump, and every throw in a track meet has to be pre-paid, and shooting for the gold costs more every year. Major Clubs like Norwesters can pay as much as $600 for a single meet in entry fees alone,’’ says Cull. The Club its raising money this Fall to pay for Cross- 10x13 Wall Portrait Country and entries. However, the major event in the fund-raising campaign is the Marathon Relay Runathon on October 14 at Ambleside. Teams of young athletes will complete the full Marathon distance of 42.195 kilometres. ThetClub expects that the thousands of North Shore residents who have trained with the Nor-Westers over the last 25 years will be among those to sign pledges for the Relay, and support some very hard-working young athletes. For information on Norwesters programs, phone John Cull 980-9257. Telephone pledges are welcome.
