Highland’s honesty noted Dear Editor: This letter addresses a fun- damental human quality: honesty. { consider myself a very honest and trustworthy person. | have built my profession and personal reputation by being firstly and foremost honest. To this end, [ want to share with your readers a very positive experience, Earlier today, | went and picked up my pants from Highland Cleaners on Woodbine Drive just behind Edgemont Village. As usual, Wendy greeted me with a warm smile and gave me my slacks. Just before I paid she pointed out. a small white envelope at- _tached to the hanger with the work stub. Not thinking about it any further, £ went home and forgot about my pants until the evening. When 1 changed | found in this litte white envelope $24 which obviously 1 had left in my pocket, The more I thought about it, the more { realized { had to tell as many people as possible. The amount of money has nothing to do with it. The fact that it was returned with no fan- fare tells me that this has hap- pened to other clients of Highland Cleaners. Not only are they the best dry cleaners on the North Shore, they are also honest. Thanks. That's why Political reform is a corner-_ stone of Reform Party policy. i We believe that changing the |. system is the only way to § restore trust — that simply f changing the faces is not _ enough. Under the present system + MPs of the NDP, PC and ‘Liberal parties consistently “vote the party line" in the House: of Commons regard- fess of the wishes of the vot- ers. Each MP is instructed by his. or her party. whip whether to vote “yea” or “nay” on a Bill, - This means that an MP does - not even have to know what ‘the vote is about or how it . could affect the people in a {| particular Riding. : There.is.no " flexibility to vote against the party because to do so usual!- _ly means expulsion for defy- ing the Leader. The system “makes it impossible for an MP ~ of one of the old line parties to properly represent his or her . constituency. ‘ Reform Party MPs, however, | , are free to truly represent their ‘constituencies and are ‘committed to being held accountable for the quality of that representation. The ability _to RECALL an MP is an }. integral part of Reform Party policy. The Reform Party is also committed to the introduction & 23 Yrs. We believe as well in fixed elec- tion dates and real senate reform. Introduction of these mea- sures would ensure that those who draft our laws would take ’ more care to consider region- al interests and input from the public through their MPs. Debates in the House of Commons would have real value, Canadians would receive better government, and. the stranglehold of “top down” party discipline would ‘be broken. Most important of all, you would once again be able to trust your federal politicians. It is expected that Reform will win at-least 40 seats in the next election — enough to hold the balance of power and enough to enable us to force through most or ali of these political reforms. Your vote for the ‘Reform candidate in your Riding is essential if reat change is to be possible. Please help us to make histo- ty by voting Reform. The column this week was written by Ted White but more information about the Reform Party and its policies is avail- able from either candidate. 66 * Enter the ICBC Farkade from Rogers Ave., — “$2.00 FLAT RATE” parking si sign ** Must be paid in advance "RESTAURANTS OPEN LATER.
