Why has he been so long in the shade? According to Jacks it’s because ‘‘I don’t want to be bugged all the time. I like to share my music, but I like a private life.’’ . After Seasons, he says, ‘‘everything closed in on me.’”’ He realized how short- lived that number one posi- tion is, and decided to ‘‘quit while I was ahead,’’ although that wasn’t as easy as it sounds. ‘‘I was turning down coach house 700 LILLOOET ROAD. Now, ‘‘after standing at the side, not getting my feet wet”? Jacks is back. Following his plan, he’s been able to escape from the limelight to his 250 acre farm, his fishing boat, the Queen Charlottes and Europe at will. And he’s never lost the **pulse’” of popular music opinion. ‘‘I don’t hang around with the jet setters, my friends are all basic people.’’ And the new album, Pulse, seems to fit perfectly into Jacks’ successful pattern for life and music. The themes on this album include love, television, and the preserva- tion of the Queen Charlottes. Pulse is by no means a block- buster album, but it is com- fortable, and enjoyable listening to it on the living room stereo is like having a visit from an old and comfor- table friend from down the street. Terry Jacks, who loves new projects and challenges, admits he is a_ limited vocalist, but enjoys all facets of music, especially producing.
