On Oct. 14, 15 and 16 the pastors and congregants ceiebrated the opening of the Christian Cen- tre’s new sanctuary, located at 3400 Sutherland in North Van- couver, with a variety of events, including nostalgia night, a pan- cake breakfast, a gospel concert and an open house. Pastor David Norris said a rapid growth in the centre’s membership created a demand for a new building to house its approximately 250 members. He said members totally reno- vated the original building — which is now used specifically for Christian education — added on a new building (the sanctuary) this summer, and planted trees, shrubs and vines on surrounding grounds. “A Christian architect designed the new building and members did the majority of the construction. We did the grounds ourselves — we all helped,’’ said David Norris. One of the main features of the new sanctuary is six large leaded- glass windows dating back to 1790 which were crafted in England. A new loft seats 120 people and un- derground parking accommodates 28 cars. Congregants are predominately young and participate in a number of the centre’s activities including choir, and a senior’s outreach Pro- gram — a group of members sing for. the seniors and take them shopping. : The centre also holds the tradi- tional Sunday morning and even- ing services and Sunday school, as well as Bible studies once a week.
