The peat moss is more than six meters thick in places. Hotels and motels on the island have two main characteristics: they are comfortable and quiet. Most of’ the = ac- commodation on the island is concentrated in five hotels. They are La Roche Pleureuse, Cap aux Pierres, du Capitaine, La Couddriere and Ecume par la Houle. They have 81, 72, 20, 12 and 10 units respectively. All have ample parking space, but only two have television in some of their rooms. On Isle-aux-Coudres, few people care. The Hotel de La Roche Pleureuse (Whimpering Rock) has been so named because a gurgling spring by a large rock does sound as if it is whimpering. It is the ideal retreat for — honeymooners or anyone else in search of quiet and comfort. Its lovers’ lane is lined by the jottings of popular pocts and singers.
