New income level guide-
lines have been introduced
into the Residential Rehabi-
litation Assistance Program
(RRAP) that will enable
more N. Van. residents in
emsting RRAP areas to now
qualify for a grant or a
grant/loan for house repairs.

A homeowner with a
yearly income of $9,000 or
less is eligible for a forgive-
able grant of $3,750 if the
house needs repairs to this
amount. Between $9,000 and
$16,500, the grant is pro-
rated according to income
As in the past, any home
owner with an annual in-
come of over $16,500 may be
eligible for a RRAP loan of
up to $10,000 to undertake
house repairs.

In order to qualify, you
must live in one of the desig-
nated areas in the City of
North Vancouver, namely

Chesterfield

The house must need up-
grading in at least one or

more of the five basic repair

arcas which’ consist of
structural soundness, fire
safety. clectrical wiring,

plumbing or heating.

If one of more of these
defects is present, work can
also be done on other
problem areas including
windows, gutters, floors and
stairs, walkways, kilchen
counters, insulavon, cx:
terior and intonor finishes.

It must be stressed that the
RRAP funds are for repairs
rather than renovations or
alterations

Landlords can also bencfit
from RRAP funding if they
sign a federal rent control
agreement that remains in
force even if provincial con-
trols are withdrawn \

A landlord can get half the
rehabilitation costs of
eligible repairs up to a
maximum of $2,500 per unit
in the form of a grant.

Getting a RRAP grant or
loan isn't a difficult process

This step by step guide
shows how to go about it.

Phone your RRAP
Office Monday through
Thursday. | to 4:30 p.m. at
985-7761 - Local 40. They
will tell you what documents
to bring to the office. It will
take about half an hour to
process the application.

A RRAP Adviser will
come and = inspect your
property. This could take
anywhere between a week
and three weeks in the peak
season.

You will be mailed an
inspection report with an
information sheet on how to
get cstimatcs

You must get two or
more estimates for the work
listed on the = inspection
report, or if you prefer you
can do your own work in
which case you will not be
paid for your labour unless
you're a hicensed contractor.

Once
