House values up, market down
reports end of summer survey

WHILE THE overall value
of residential properties in
British Columbia rose dur-
ing the month of August,
the total value and number
of sales in the province
declined, reports British
Columbia Real Estate
Association president Don

the same period last year,
Lancaster said noting: ‘‘the
decline in sales is due in part
to the normal summer slow
down and the reduced flow
of people moving to B.C.
from other parts of Canada
and overseas.’*

estate boards in B.C.
reported an increase in sales
over the same period last
year.

“When looking at price
averages,’’ Lancaster
warned, “homeowners and
prospective purchasers
should remember that the
average figures reflect the
values of property sold
during the reporting period.
For an accurate appraisal of
the value of properties in
their neighborhoods pro-
spective buyers and- sellers
should consult their local
realtor.”
