It seems that I’d answered some of her questions but certainly not all of them. In fact, she made a list. Here are some of the items on her list — T have to admit, they're very good questions: Question: If you take + flight- cruise package who is responsible for your bags? What happens if they don't arrive on board before you sail? Answer: The airline accepts re- sponsibility until you land at your destination (probably the airport in your port of embarkation). The cruise lines wisely insist that you claim your own bags before they transfer you to the shuttle bus linking with either the ship or a hotel should you have opted for a stay in your point of departure. ECE travel by Barbara McCreadie If your bags don’t 2 arrive, it is clearly the airline’s responsibility and they will do their best to see that you are re-united. If, after the crvise line takes over, your bars go missing, chances are tha th: ; have simply been delive-ed tu ..e wrong cabin and will en.crge in a hurry. Chances of misadventure might be 1/1,000 but if it does come to a no-bag cruise, relax. You've yot the perfect excuse to quit trying to be a fashion plate and your story will win you a big handful of sym- pathetic new acquaintances. Question: What happens if 1 go ashore at a port and return to the dock to find that the ship has sail- rd without me? Answer: Don't think that hasn’t happened! Now, since the Lauro Line tragedy (remember the hi- jacking) security is much tighter aboard ship. This means that you get 1.D.’'d on and off and perhaps they may notice if you don’t show up on time. If you’ve been involved in some accident or whatever that’s delayed your return to the ship, a call to the agency representing the ship, in port might save your neck. Every ship distributes a list of its agents in every port of landing. It helps to carry it with you. If all else fails, you’re on your own and must provide your own transportation to the next port of call. Without a doubt, it will be a vacation you’ll never forget. Question: I’ve never travelied by ship. I don’t know if I'm going to get seasick. What should I do if I discover the bad news too late. Answer: Don't leave your cabin without a bucket tied around your neck. Sorry, that wasn’t a very serious answer. I’ve never been seasick so l can’t relate very well to the pro- blem. I have a couple of theories about seasickness: * If you’ve never had motion |-0:$,0.6:6 6:6 00000000080: and large screen Monday October 6 San Diego ChargeIls VS. And, I have a couple of ‘‘cure’’ suggestions: * Transderm-V patches, worn behind the ear are said to work wonders. Check with your doctor. * Champagne is touted as a marvellous cure-all. Don’t believe a word of it! The best all-purpose cure-all recommended to me by an expert is white Creme de Menthe, over ice, sipped slowly. Mind you, if 1 did anything in- ternal with white Creme de Menthe I'd be so sick that I’d wish I was sailing. But, it did cure my mother on one notable occasion but I wouldn’t have bought her hangover at a garage sale. If I had my choice between creme de men- the and castor oil, I'd be hard up to make a choice. m Careers in Travel * We can open the door to the DAY AND EVENING COURSES ff ij conducted by industry professionals & TRAVEL COUNSELLING SALES & MARKETING RESERVEC COMPUTERS §& with on-site installations Ste. 2-1583 Pemberton Ave. North Vancouver 986-2221 é Seniors & Group Rates BY TRAIN ong aw TO GOLDRUSH COUNTRY INCLUDES: Rail fares, lunch, guided historic sites tour in Lillooet, boxed supper. 984-2224 | October Special $6.4? aguit AN INVITATION TO A CEILIDH SEAFORTH CAMP OF THE SONS OF SCOTLAND EXTENDS AN INVITATION TO SCOTS, BY BIRTH OR OTHERWISE TO ATTEND A CEILIDH(A PARTY) AT THE MICKEY MeDOUGALL CENTRE AT 23rd AND ST.
