On March 31, the Grade 2°s and 3°s released the salmon fry they had raised into the fry pond nearby. We think it’s time we reimburse the salmon by giving them a new home. - Iwas devastated when | heard that the fish hatchery was vandalized because pro- ple have put their time and effort into the salmon project. Hatchery volunteers have worked on the project for i] years and have definitely devoted their time and effort to reproduce the salmon. Kristen Chila and Teresa Chen Contributing Writers THE Grade 2’s and 3’s of Westcot ele- mentary have been studying salmon for several months. They have grown over 30 salmon fry in an aquarium in their class- room since mid-January. On Friday, Merch 31, they had a chance to release their salmon “babies” into Westcot’s very own fry pond. Before bringing the fry down to the pond, the two teachers caught the fish and put them ina container. We were there and you could just see the enthusi- asm in the students’ eyes. Westcot’s fry pond was built a year and a half ago. The fry pond has twigs, branches, and leaves, a stump in the cen- tre and soil around it.
