North Shore

Neighbourhood House pro-
vides a lot of different pro-
grams for seniors and older
adults. There is a craft circle
that meets on Fridays to work
on projects that can be sold to
raise funds for trips and out-
ings. In addition to bingo,
gardening and discussion
groups, there is a special
men’s club that gives men (50
and older) the opportunity to
get together for discussions,
outings and cooking, classes.

A great way to Keep one’s
mind active is to sign up for
one or more Eldercollege
courses. Registration has
already started for fall pro-
grams, but you can get more
information from Capilano
College by calling 984-4906.

Jon Turpin, chairman of
the Eldercollege Advisory
Board, is a senior who is com-
mitted to the idea of lifelong
learning.

Said Turpin: “Four years
ago I took a couple of courses
about familiar subjects —they
were enjoyable. Then I took
courses about subjects I knew

The Informed Shared Decision Making Project at the University of British |
Columbia is working with the Lionsview Seniors’ Planning Society on this }

study. Study participants will receive an honorarium of $25. Participation will §

include attending a workshop (up to 2 hours in length), completing brief ques-

tionnaires and a telephone interview.

¥ The questionnaire(s) and interview will ask you what you know about high

blocd pressure and the medication you take to treat your high blood pressure.
= The workshop will help you to understand and interpret the medical evidence
§ for drugs used to treat high blood pressure. The workshop will be held on the

North Shore.
