Council had planned in 1981 to put public. street lights along !3th St. from St. David’s to Bewicke Avenue, and along other nearby streets, north of }3th. But, according to Ald. Stella Jo Dean, residents liv- ing in the now exempted area petitioned in 1981 against Street lights, citing an = in- crease in taxes as one of their objections. Dean, who at Monday’s meeting voted against the amendment, said she sup- ported having street lighting as being a prevention agaisnt crime. **T don’t think we should succumb to a group of people if it isn’t for the benefit of the whole community,”’ she said.
