The prawns are served atop a soft roast com and chipotle pancake. Good dish. All three tapas make tor a full meal. The sampled Spinach Leaves salad was fess impres- sive. ft included hearts of palm, Stilton cheese and can- died walnuts — a good idea, but drowned in citrus vinai- grette. Sampled entrees included Grilled Beef Tenderloin and Five Spice Dusted Sabletish. Both were good, if somewhat unambitious. The beef, more rare than medium, came with green beans and potatoes mashed with mascarpone cheese. Jt was finished in an espresso reduction. On the plate with the Sabletish (similar to sea bass): mashed yams with ginger egant open-air opti undertones and grilled red endive. The fish was finished in a slightly sweet soy honey laze. Sahaire’s wine list starts ar about $20, West Coast Western Hemisphere (Chile to B.C.) is well represented. Kortles trom Australia, France and Italy are also listed. A baker's dozen are avail- able by the glass ($6 to $9). ‘There's also a martini list for the shaken-not-stirred crowd. Saftaire’s biggest coup was securing its rooftop terrace. [rs a key summer addition — West Vancouverites being nosori- ously keen on fresh air and bracing sea breezes. And Saltaire has spared no expense in its development. The view from the terrace is wonderful: West Vancouver shoreline and Vancouver har- bour to the sourh and even a snapshot Mountainview to the north. {t’s finished in light tan paving stones with etched glass walls, Royal blue blan- kets, gas heaters and a west- end fireplace provide warmth when the sun gocs down, The terrace is furnished with teak tables and deck chairs that, thankfully, are arranged with ample breath- ing room betwixt. A rooftop herb garden and a string of bar stools along the north wail dining counter will likely be in place by the time you read this column.
