There are plenty of offerings this year, from the near-classic /t’s Snowing on Saltspring at the Arts Club to a Deep Cove Stage pantomime or Theatresports retrospect-cum-Nutcracker. Here are some offerings: Jack and the Giant, Hendry Hall. North Vancouver Communi- ty Players present their annual Christmas play based on the popu- lar folk tale. This year’s play in- troduces Jack, his mother and a variety of other characters, in- cluding a giant-sized voice and a tap-dancing cow. Live musicians, singing, dancing and special ef- fects will be featured and profits will be donated to a North Shore children’s charity. Shows are Dec. 28, 29 and Jan. 4, 5 at 1, 2 and 3 p.m., $3/6. Nicola Cavendish’s Christmas comedy of sheer holiday fluff returns. Caven- dish stars as Sarah Bannister, a 92 months pregnant wife whose hus- band needs help recapturing the & KARAOKE spirit of Christmas. Very light ‘are with the usual comedic flair of Cavendish and geeky character acting from Steven Sutcliffe as (fashion time warp) Bernice Sharpley and Grindl the raunchy elf. Kevin McNulty plays the grin- chy dentist who during a “dream” is transported back to his boyhood smack in the middle of Santa’s workshop where he is awed back into the spirit of Christmas, Disney style. The wacky people at Back Alley are back with a Christmas parody which plays on the themes and music of the Nut- cracker Suite. More like i improv than a scripted play (although it is scripted, however loosely) and with minimal sets, Nutcracker’d starts with two office workers who get banked on the head at the staff Christmas party and are transpor- ted inte a wacky dream world populated by the past year’s events and people.
