NV man joining group
on historical voyage

A NORTH Vancouver man is set
to embark on a historical trip
across Canada.

Bruce Marton-Lambert, 24, is
one of 36 students from Lakehead
University in Thunder Bay, Ont.

who will re-enact the historical
voyages of Sir Alexander
Mackenzie this summer in the

Canada Sea-to-Sea program.

This year marks the second
phase of a four-year project orga-
nized by Lakehead University. In
1989, 25 Lakehead students pad-
dled 3,500 kilometres from Fort
McMurray, Alta. to the Arctic
Ocean, re-enacting Mackenzie's
first trip down the river that now
bears his name.

This summer the expedition will

travel 3,400 kilometres from
Lachine, Que. to Winnipeg.
Marlon-Lambert graduated

from high school in 1985 and at-
tended Capilano College and
Simon Fraser University before

PREMIER Rita Johnston has said the new B.C. budget

Jansen released the 1991-92 budget Tuesday and an-

Alexander Mackenzie is a legiti-
mate Canadian hero and if not for
him and other Canadian explor-
ers, Canada would not be what it
is today,’’ said Marlon-Lambert.

He added that the Canada Sea-
to-Sea program will educate Ca-
nadians about an important part
of Canadian history, while com-
memorating Mackenzie’s search
for the Northwest Passage.

“As the modern-day voyageurs
retrace their steps, they will visit
more than 50 communities, pres-
enting a historical pageant to
promote the federal government’s
Stay In School program,” said
Marlon-Lambert.
