The festivities get under way on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the skating arena at 123 E. 23rd St., North Vancouver. This year’s carnival is for people of all ages. There will be interesting informa- tion dispiays by local winter sports groups, ice demonstrations, a penny carnival and othe; creative on-ice demonstrations. Scheduled = activities in- clude on-ice performances by Elite Precision Skaters, Ringette Bunnies, ice dancers ard figure skaters. There will be ice painting, snow crafts, and a safety road obstacle course design- ed to teach safety to young children. Special guests include Ronald McDonald, who will visit between 1:45 and 2:15 p.m.,and Virgilio Naerro, a Westin Bayshore chef who will take approximately two hours to sculpt an eagle from a block of ice. North Vancouver minor hockey, ringette and curling clubs are among the ice user groups thar will be available to answer questions. Several classes from local schools have added to the festive atmosphere by designing large colorful banners that will be mounted around the rink’s perimeter. Pianist to give concerts NORTH SHORE pianist Nicholas Maloff is back home for a two-week break from his studies at the prestigious Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory where he has been studying for the past two years.
