BRIEFS Man drowns off Lighthouse Park A 31-YEAR-OLD Vancouver man died Saturday afterncon in 3 diving accident at West Vancouver's Lighthouse Park. A West Vancouver Police Department spokesman said Brian James Bowes dove off a rock cliff into waters near the lighthouse, but became tired and was unable to climb back up the cliff. Another man, Stewart Rintoul, then jumped in (to rescue Bawes and, according to police, nearly killed himself in the process. Rintoul had to be rescued by a group of bystanders who used a blanket to pull him up the cliff. Bowes’ body was later recovered by an RCMP marine boat in 30 feet of water. Men rescued from canyon pool TWO NORTH Vancouver men were rescued by North Vancouver District Fire Department and B.C. Ambulance Service crews after they became trapped at ‘90-foot’ pool in Lynn Canyon Park shortl; before 4 p.m. Sunday. A North Vancouver RCMP spokesman said Rick Warner, 20, and Vittorio Decotiis, 21, had been swimminy in the pool when they became trapped near a rock ledge. Because of the strong Lynn Creek currents, the pair needed help to climb out of the pool. Neither man was injured in the incident. Firefighters battle blazes ‘THE NORTH Vancouver District Fire Department is investigating the cause of 2 Sunday-morning blaze at Tolko Industries Ltd., which is located near the Second Narrows Bridge. , A fire department spekesman said the fire, which started in 2 sawdust pile, broke out at about 9:30 a.m. Meanwhile, a second Sunday fire caused approximately $2,000 damage to the kitchen of an apartment at 110 East 27th St. in North Vancouver District. A fire department spokesman said the blaze started after grease in a deep fryer had caught on fire. Damage was confined to the stove and some cupboards. Trial ordered for threat case A 21-YEAR-OLD Whistler man was ordered recently in West Vancouver provincial court to stand trial for allegedly uttering a threat. William Sager will be facing a charge of threatening a West Vancouver Police officer on Jan 27. He will next appear in B.C.
