Maybe nor. Just not reacy to tuss in the Tusk towe! as yet. Pretty good reasons not to. Key among, those: the ‘Tusk is not any of the above competitors. And that’s how its patrons like it. Recently taken over by long-time Tusk manager Nigel D*Souza, the restaurant adjunct to the Park Royal South golf driving range remains low-key and low- priced. Not low-ead, however. The Tusk has always had an attractive dining room. It opened with much fanfare in April 1994 as a North Shore outpost of Whistler/Squamish alpine vigour; its namesake “Garibaldi provincial park’s Black Tusk peak. Its 65-seat dining room was fashioned after an opulent mountain ski lodge — high ceilings; lots of rich natural wood; slate floors; a crackling fireplace; and ampie room for spinning outdoors yarns with- out having to compeze with some obnoxious high-energy dining room soundtrack. The Tusk, however, has delivered an uneven dining experience over the years, Sometimes falling below alpine expectations; occasion- ally achieving them. The current incarnation resides more in the latter camp. OK: the service is a touch informal, but maybe that’s the spin.
