policy reviewed

NORTH VANCOUVER City Ald. Allan Blair called for the city to
review ‘its policy Monday of sending employees to professional
conferences around the continent.

And to punrcuate his point, Blair voted against sending three city
employees to’professional conferences in Penticton, Prince George
and Boston, Mass. «".

“I'd like the policy committee to réview the policy’of staff going
on ‘trips both inside and outside the province,” he said during
voting on the trips. ;

, City. policy says the municipality will pay for associated con-
ference expenses, - which usually include conference registration,
transportation and lodgings.

Said Ald. Ralph Hall: “I have never seen one recommendation
(for conference attendance) that. was not worthy of considera-
tion...it’s money well spent.’”

The policy committee will be reviewing the matter in August or

September.

NORTH VANCOUVER'’S Pioneer
Grain has been using ‘‘stalling tac-
tics’’ with the city regarding noise
concerns, the head of the city’s
noise control committee said
Monday.

‘*There’s been some slow-down
or stalling tactics in getting some
cooperation (on noise control) on
behalf of Pioneer Grain,’’ said
Ald. John Braithwaite.

Communication between various
company and port officials and ci-
ty staff has been going on for some
time, a new noise control commit-
tee report indicates.

As well, the report called for
joint meetings between the com-
pany and city staff as ‘the only
viable route’? to ‘achieve some
measure of abatement.’’
