1987 RACING SEASON track to icast races THE TRACK at the Pacific National Exhibition and Seattie’s Longacres race track will feature a unique thoroughbred racing simulcast program for the 1987 season. The Exhibition Park track will take four simulcast races from Longacres during the final three months of the 127-day B.C. Jockey Club season. The Track, in turn, will simulcast four races to Longacres. It will mark the first time in North American thoroughbred racing that a Canadian and American track have entered into a simulcast program. Races to be simulcast Longacres are the Alki Handicap, Sept. 6; the Belle Roberts Handicap, Oct. 4; the Longacres Derby, Aug. 9; and the Longacres Mile, Aug. 23. The Alki, Belle Roberts and Derby will all be to The Track from - transmitted t9 The Track via satellite hookup. The Longacres mile will be a television simulcast. The clinic is scheduled to run 16° Sundays. For the first four to five Sun- days participants will swim from 8 to 9 a.m. and obtain stroke correc- tion as well as endurance work. The following four to five Sun- days include a run following the swim. Cycling training will be added in the last portion of the clinic. Ski club gets grant PROVINCIAL Secretary Elwood Veitch and West Vancouver-Howe Sound MLA John Reynolds recently announced that the Blackcomb Ski Club will receive a $15,195 grant to buy equipment needed for hosting national and international alpine ski races on Blackcomb Mountain. “The Blackcomb Ski Club should be commended for its drive to improve its facilities for hosting national and world - class skiing events,’’ Veitch said. “In its six-year history, the club has grown to include over 300 members.
