Before coming to the coast, I took the ‘Power Squadron’’ course, thinking that it would be the absolute minimum that is needed before venturing out into the salt water. I am glad that | took it. Unfortunately, that is not the general attitude toward boating. 1 have met some boaters after they have travelled some 100 miles up the coast from Vancouver in clear weather asking —- what is this place? No charts. Some have road maps. Drivers have to pass tests, pilots and hunters do, except boaters. : . Mr. Davis, here is your op- portunity for some good work in the Legislative Assembly. Read Bob Hunter in the same issue. He said it all. Uldis Arajs North Vancouver Collins inaccurate Dear Editor: 1 am not sure if f should write this letter to you as editor or to Doug Collins, since it is his column in your August 2 issue which com- pels me to protest. I suggest Mr. Collins get his spelling and facts right before expressing his usual somewhat vitriolic views on the subject of women. The general tenor of his column is nat worth commenting on, given Mr. Collins’ well- known prejudices. However, may | point out that the Oxford Dictionary gives the correct spelling of “they-dey’’ as heyday. See the Concise Oxford Dic- tionary, 1974 revised reprint. The. other point which needs correction is the men- tion of one Larwood and the implication that he was an Australian. Actually, Harold Larwood was a member of the English cricket team which played against Australia for the ‘‘Ashes’’ back in the 1930s or thereabouts. He was known as the ‘‘demon bowler’’ and somewhat criticized for his use of what was called “bodyline bowling’’, a term which is self-explanatory. Given Mr. Collins’ inac- curacy on the two above points, I doubt any of his other points regarding Australia deserve to be given credence.
