Mailbox TAXI CABS, BUSSES Drivers should be screened Dear Editor: During a time when public transportation is more convenient and more readily available than ever before, we have let personal safety slip out of our own hands, and into those that are in control of our destinations. We place trust and faith in total . strangers, only because they are involved with, and work for a system that we are led to believe is there to benefit the public. Have any of us questioned the qualifica- tions of city bus drivers, taxi-cab drivers, or any other controller of public transportation? Being a single, working female without a means of personal transportation, the public transit system and taxi-cabs are the usual forms of transportation to and from work. The recent rash of taxi-cab pas- sengers, mostly females, that are being attacked and assaulted, has opened my eyes to see that I’m not alone in what happened to myself. After the experience of being physically assaulted in a vicious and degrading manner by a cab driver representing the Yellow Cab company here in Vancouver, my ‘trust and faith in this means of Obstacles to career . Not only in reference to the drivers, but also to the com- panies that these people represent. Obviously the Yellow Cab com- pany does siot do a thorough evaluation of their employees, and in my case showed no concern for the physica! or mental! anguish that I obtained due to the attack from one of their employees.
