BAND HISTORY

There's a brand new Photography Class on the
North Shore where the students are fast becoming
avid shutterbugs, with amazingly good results.

For the past few weeks,
the Adult and Community
Education Service
Department of the North and
West Vancouver School
Districts has been = spon-
sonng a Photography class at
the Squamish Indian Band
Office.

The students are very
enthusiasuc and their in-
structor, Yvonne Cramer, 1s
furnously racking her brains
for new ideas for field trips.
One wet and windy Saturday
everyone took off for
Granville Island. where a lot
of fun was had frantically
observing people. and
looking for suitable subjects.
Everything was tackled.
from candy apples.
pineapples and flowers, to
bonsai. wooden tovs and
flowers

When everything
had been exhausted
Innovative students braved
the torrential rain to get
shots of passing boats and
fishermen, etc

a bleary-eyed class met on a
Sunday morning at Ricky's.
before braving the severe
frost at Whytecliffe Park,
where once again their
obvious talent was put to the
test. Nothing was left
unexplored. from passing
planes and ferry boats, to
stray dogs, eagles and even
other class members.

When night photography
was the discussion for the
evening. many class
members had to be
enlightened as to the subject
in hand as their fond idea of
night photography up tll
class time had been Fast
Eddies’s or the St. Alice!

Apart from the obvious
enjoyment of these classes.
the students are studying
techniques as their ability
will soon be put to the test in
the immediate future. One
urgent need is the preser-
vauvion of Squamish Band
history. as well as copying
old photographs and relics:
portraits of the current
