C12-Wednesday, November 5, 1980 - North Shore News. item who seems to have a lot of trouble ng what she likes and what she wants. I like her very much and I wish things were different, but she bi really so liacking in en- thusiasm that it drives me crazy. We'll go to the show and I never know if she liked it or hated it. We just went to the show — no more, no less. I take her. out to dinner and I'm in the dark as to whether she'd like to go to that place again. She keeps saying, “Whatever you say is O.K. with me.” I like a lot of people and I don't know if she likes anyone — or even hates anyone. Even in bed ft’s just the same. It is a mystery to me whether it has been wonderful or lousy. rll _ say to her “Where would you like to go tonight?” or I might say, “Let’s do so-and- so tonight.” I know the answer ahead of time. “It doesn't matter to me — I want to do what you want.” I can fmagine some fellows would like that being said to them, and they'd just take charge — quite happily. But me? Not on your life. I want to know what is fun for her, what she likes, what she wants to do or where she wants to go. Then I want to have even a little inkling whether she is pleased or not. The most enthusiasm I ever get from her is, “If you enjoyed it, I am happy.” That is just not good enough stand. eectjthian being blah: What should I do about it? STEWART: should back off. You've clearly directed me _ to arriving at that position. You say, “That is just not good enough for me.” You say, “I can’t stand everything being blah.” You have even said, “I wish things were dif- ferent.” Well, they are NOT different. That’s what they are like. Of course you could try to make her over, but I've never heard of that working. (She might do that some day, but you will NEVER do it.) You've said another thing I think you . that is important. You said, “I can imagine some fellows would like” that sort of relationship. “They'd just take charge — quite hap- pily.” True. So give them a chance to find her. Give her a chance to meet them. And, above all, give yourself a chance to get out of something that you say you “can’t stand”. Printmakers show comes to N.
