Newsstand Price 25¢ ‘To reassure the public’ By PAT RICH Two former RCMP officers were each sentenced to 14 days imprisonment Wed- nesday for operating a phoney lottery in West Vancouver. “There are no_ special privileges for those who occupy a position of privilege,” Judge Nancy Morrison said in passing sentence in North Van- couver Provincial Court. Ernest Bienia, aged 26 and Bryan Mason, aged 24, pleaded guilty to fraud charges last week and Morrison had adjourned sentencing until Wednesday in order to consider the case. Bienia and Mason were charged with operating a phoney lottery between April 11 and April 19 when they sold nine $2 lottery tickets for a non-existent Howard University Hospital Fund.
