James escapes suspension (UPC) Maverick lawyer Jack James has temporarily escaped suspension for refusing a Law Society of B.C. order to stop using the name The Law Shoppe for his practice, but he may have to defend his actions later at a full inquiry. The society's disciplinary committee decided not to suspend James, although committee chairman George Cumming labelled the lawyer “defiant” for ignonng the Jan. 25 order that the title was not acceptable for a law practice. The society must now decide whether to proceed with a citation against James at an internal heanng or grant a public hearing. James has said he would like to poll the public to see if people think his firm's name is inappropriate for the legal profession. This is the latest in a series of appearances James has made before the society since May, 1978 for ad- vertising his services. draperies by S.
