The original charged stemmed from a June 29, 1999 incident in West Vancouver. Before Judge Jerome Paradis on Aug. 2: Abbas Rajabi Ghodrat, 47, of North Vancouver, was fined $600 and received six months’ probation after he was found guilty of: stealing merchandise belonging to Canada Safeway on Oct. 7, 1999 in North Vancouver City; failing to go to court on March 1. On Aug. 31 in Vancouver Provincial Court, Ghodrat was convicted of illegally transporting, cigarettes. He was sentenced to three months in jail. According to~Vancouver RCMP Customs and Excise section, Ghodrat frequent First Nation reserves and bought. cigarettes that are _B.C. tax exempted. The tax-free cigarettes are allocated for Natives. Ghodrat was arrested while transporting a shipment of 99 cartons of these rax- exempt cigarettes from cen- tral B.C. to the Lower Mainland. Police say the cigareties were to be distributed in retail scores.
