Francis Patrick Spencer, 49, of no fixed address, was charged while in police custody. He was in custody after being charg: d with wo North Vancouver robberies alleged to have been committed at knile-point in mid May. On Tuesday, he was charged with 10 offences relating to a string of robberies in North Vancouver and Coquithm in which a man cither threw gasoline on counters or on store employces. In cach case the robber then threatened to light a fire. Spencer was also charged with another knife-point robbery. Spencer is scheduled for a bail hearing on June 16 in North Vancouver provincial court. The gasoline robber began his cnme spree in North Vancouver on March 18 at Rogers Video, 972 Marine Dr. The man targeted mainly video and motel clerks who worked alone. On May 21, a knite brandishing robber held up Act fb Theatrical Make-up and Dance Supplies on Marine Drive ina scenario similar to that of the gasoline robberies. On Mav 16, a knife- brandishing robber held up Seymour Natural Foods in Parkgate mall in the same way, Police said a store employee and a customer were forced ina back washroom by the robber. One of the victims came out of the washroom and saw the man get inte a vehicle. Based on the vehicle's ption, police arrested a sus- Phe gasoline robber held up Travelodge, Movies Movies, Dial-a-Movie, Red Hot Video and Grouse Inn. He attempted to rob North Shore Market. The gasoline robber also held up three businesses in Coquitlam in April including the Sleepy Lodge motel and Adult Video Superstore. No one was injured.
