Dear Editor: On Monday. July 23,0 Wesi Vancouver District Council, to a man, voted down a praposed senior citizens housing co-op. The well-heeled residents of the British Properties successfully Jobbied against seniors housing in their back yards. The Kirkside Seniors Co-op would have provid- ed 40 senior citizens with moder- ate-priced housing in the neighborhoods in which they had lived for years. This co-op was organized and financed by 40 seniors without any government subsidies on land which was being provided at a very favorable rate by the West Vancouver Baptist Church. We have to give her our support. World Vision, which has had projects in the Philippines since 1955, responded immediately by giving blankets, food, and water purification tablets to hundreds of affected families. Rescue equip- ment, such as heavy-duty lamps and %-inch hose, were donated to the Office of Civil Defence less than 24 hours after the earth- quake. World Vision, which has 43,000 sponsored children in the Philip- pines, aims to help the affected families rebuild their homes. Be- fore the earthquake, World Vision alloted U.S.53.6 million for its child sponsorship and community development projects in the Mailbox policy WHEN SENDING a letter to the editor, be sure to include your name, written legibly, your full address and your telephone number. .
