Jason Odegard led the Blazers scoring attack with I1 goals along with Jade Bryan’s three goals and ten point game. Other players who played a big part in the win were Jacob Marchant, Richard Brody, Cory Taylor, and David Ridgewell. Chena swimmer sets B.C. record VAUGHN THOMPSON of the Chena Swim Club set a B.C. re- cord in the 200-metre breaststroke everi at the Western Junior Na- tional Swim Championships on the weekend of Feb. 11. Chena swimmers Romin Gerela, Litza Anderson and Thompson were accompsnied by head coach John Melnikow to the event heid in Winnipeg. Thompson reached the finals of the 50-metre, 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke. His record time of 2:26.65 in the 200-metre event makes him the B.C. record holder in two categories of the breasistroke event as he broke the record in the 100-metre event several weeks ago. Gerela had several best times at the meet and reached the finals in the 50-metre and 100-metre butterfly and the 50-metre backstroke. Anderson reached the finals of both the 50- and 200-metre backstroke even though she was suffering from the flu. Gerela, 15, Thompson, 14, and Anderson, 14, were the youngest swimmers in the finals of their respective events and were com- peting against the best swimmers in Western Canada of ali ages. ‘Connell advances to third round NORTH VANCOUVER'S Grant Connell was the only Canadian to advance to the third round of the SkyDome World tennis championships in Toronto last week where South African Kevin Curren disposed of him 7-6(7-4), 2-6, 6-1. Before this singles elimination, Connell upset American Jim Courier, the tourney’s ninth seed, and American, Jim Goldie. Connell didn’t fare as well in doubles with partner Glenn Michibata. The Australian Open finalists were ousted in the second round by the unseeded pair of Bret Garnett and John Sobel. NV diver springs into nationals SUZANNE BELL will be competing in the Canadian National Age Group Diving Championships after qualifying at the Alberta Winter Provinciats last weekend (Feb. 10-t1). ‘The nine-year-old diver from North Vancouver placed second on both the one-metre and three-metre springboard in the girls 11 and under age group. The only member of the North Vancouver Diving Club to be in- vited to the Alberta meet, Bell will be going to Montreal in July for the national diving meet. Tweens lose to Surrey IN NORTH West Vancouver Ringette action, the Tween B Fresco Inn Eagles fell 7-3 to Surrey in a game to be televised by Shaw Cable tonight at 9 p.m., Thursday at 8 p.m. and Monday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. With several players missing, coach Jennifer Kaight called up Kailea Feddersen from the Petite B team to play goal for the Eagles. Feddersen kept the Eagles in the game despite being out- shot by 2 wide margin. In other games, the Junior B Jets lost 9-6 to Burnaby despite a good team effort. Rich’s CIBC Reds defeated the North Shore Winter Clubs Deb B's by a score of 7-4.
