School taxes
increase in wv

"WEST VA NCOUVER School

Board. approved, a

$23, 643,019 budget for the 1988/89 fiscal year Monday that
will increase the gross operating cost 6.6 per cent and in-
crease school taxes for the average district. houschold by $70

in 1988.

The overall sharing of costs is
approximately 49 per cent gov-
erninent grants, 51 per cent local
taxes.

Additional | services ‘provided in
the budget include:

¢ A slight increase in enrolment
over 1987-1988.

© A’ reduction in the pupil-
teacher ‘ratio from 17.6.to 17.4,

This will add 3.3 teachers to the :

district. who will’ be deployed in
secondary English programs.
