MAILBOX News columnists should ‘know who they Dear Editor: Regarding Bob Hunter’s article Nov.22, about CBC people taking their tasks too seriously, there is nothing odd or mysterious about it. Hunter calls Knowlton Nash and Peter Mansbridge real CBCers. They are real, true Canadians with courage and fortitude. They know their identity and who they are. Simple as that. What is a Canadian? What is my identity, and who am 1? An unanswerable, question that has baffled Canadians for years. ft. has not sunk into their heads that Canada, warts and all, is their own, precious home. Canada is giving us so very much, enormous breathing-space and outlook, vast fesources for us to use, not to waste or destroy, nature on the grandest and most beautiful scale, blessed peace and frecdom. This land so many people take for granted and only give a passing glance and indifference, while searching for their identity, not able to see it for looking at it. Canadians ought not to feel in- ferior, but proud to be part of this great, inspiring land. Regarding Doug Collins’ article Nov. 8 and his disinterest and re- fusal to support Pierre Berton and Former highway minister has a ‘short memory’ _ Dear Editor: Surprising! The former high- ways minister and three former highways deputy ministers have spoken out against ‘‘privatization’’ as it applies to road and bridge construction, maintenance, ele. Short memories? Private enterprise did 40 | TRACK | LIGHTS | per cent of the maintenance work, Looking back, Alex Fraser and his three senior people thought privatization was a good idea most of the time. They were for more privatization rather than less. So they are really arguing for a ‘go slow’' approach. Don’! privatize everything, | hear them say. But privatization, on balance, is a good thing for British Columbia. Jack Davis, MLA North Vancouver/Seymour highway OFF rato is: REY NORTH VANCOUVER 14625-108th AVE.. _ 1400 MARINE DRIVE 4700 E.
