2 - Friday, November 7, 1986 - North Shore News | CAP STRIKE | Board | to meet CCFA ‘wiggle ‘for wiggle’ CHAIRMAN OF the Capilano College Board of directors said Thursday negotiators would be allow- ed some movement in the board’s bargaining position. By TIMOTHY RENSHAW News Reporter Hilda Rizun said the decision followed debate in a Wednesday night board meeting. “We have instructed our Negotiating team be given some ‘wiggle room’...if the CCFA (Capilano College Faculty Association) is prepared to move off the last position it put on the table."’ The 270-member CCFA struck Oct. 28 over the issue of teacher work-load at the college. Another attempt to resolve the issue Monday night ended in a stalemate that CCFA_ chief negotiator Ed Lavalle said left in- structors and the college board farther apart on the issue. In a subsequent faculty meeting Tuesday, CCFA members, accor- ding to Lavalle, voted overwhelm- ingly to continue the strike and to press harder to bring the board's attention to the deteriorating situa- tion for college students at the col- lege. Lavalle said Thursday the CCFA had not been notified of the board’s new position, ‘‘but we will match them wiggle for wiggle. We welcome an early and immediate meeting."’ The CCFA had proposed an in- terim agreement that would allow for the major issues to be resolved over a two-year period. On Wednesday, North Van- couver-Capilano MLA Angus Ree said the Capilano College Faculty Association (CCFA) should stop holding the college’s 4,100 students to ransom and end its strike against the college. Lavalle said Ree’s comments were made without full knowledge of the facts involved. “Compensation is not an issue. Learning and working conditions are,’ Lavalle said. In the dispute, the board main- tains a nine-section (nine-course) annual work-load is the norm, while the CCFA maintains an eight-section work-load is the norm. The last board offer to the CCFA called for a raise in top teacher salary from $41,408 to $46,000 hy Aug. I, 1987. The CCFA. is seeking a top sala- ty of $45,700 for instructors teaching nine sections, and offer- ing to use the balance of the board offer to restore to 50 per cent of its 127 full-time teachers the right to work eight sections at $43,200 rather than the fully prorated eight-section salary of $40,800 of- fered by the board. CCFA members were scheduled to meet at noon Thursday to discuss the strike situation. | COVERED SAUCEPAN 97 | REG $29.99 FEATURE VALUE One Size Reg. to 89¢ | CHUNKY PLUS WOOL IVORY 4 PACK PERSONAL BARS 380 grams REG $1.59 ALCAN ALUMINUNT FOIL WRAP _ wh roll REG. $1.59 QUARTZ WALL CLOCK Assorted styles SPECIAL ww VISIONS 4.5 LITRE Microwave or range use PANTY 1400 ZELLERS 5 PACK Ass't. t Colours Reg.$14.99 STORE HOURS: Mon.-Tues.:10:00am-6:00pm LYANT ALLOY CONTR Wed-Fri: 980-9341 Sanday. 7 eo ezrs| WINDSHIELD WASHER ANTIFREEZE 4L ? 00 Jug pours Reg.31.99 VACUUM PITCHER | 200 G aa : WILLOPACKS Goldenbuds Wiacaroons, More REG $7.59 8 GALLON GLASS AQUARIUM | Value at $26.00 PLANT GROW LIGHT BULBS 100 or 150 watt REG $4.89 JUNIOR 3 PACK SPORT SOCKS White/Pink/ Blue 150 | § POINTS | 1 LITRE Absorbent W Ass't.
